Here today for your consideration we have this large Victorian sterling silver eighty-four (84) piece part cutlery set, made by Reid & Sons of Newcastle, c-1845-1855. This set has been produced in the popular Fiddle Back design and is of very good quality and gauge throughout. The set comprises the following pieces:
24 x dinner forks - 20.5cm length
18 x entrée/dessert forks - 17cm length
18 x table/soup spoons - 22cm length
11 x dessert spoons - 18cm length
10 x teaspoons - 14cm length
2 x sauce ladles - 17cm length
1 x bread/serving fork - 25.5cm length
Combined weight: 4,802gms (154.4 troy ounce).
The set is in very good condition overall, with no major damage to note. The forks are free from serious tine wear, and the spoon bowls are without damage. The bread fork and ladles feature a well executed crest (Bigge family) to the face, with all other pieces featuring this crest and a matching monogram. The hallmarks are well struck throughout with various iterations and dates, but all pertain to Reid and Sons of Newcastle. This is an impressive and very good quality setting for the large family.
Whilst not complete, the setting is of a relatively common pattern. Interested parties are encouraged to make contact regarding the addition of other complementary pieces to this set from the extensive flatware collection of William Sharpe Antiques.
